A Pantarsal Arthrodesis Locking Plate is a contoured bone plate specifically designed to span the canine tarsus (hock). Its unique shape anatomically matches the complex angles of the tibia, talus, and metatarsal bones. During a pantarsal arthrodesis surgery, the damaged cartilage is removed, and the joint is positioned at a functional angle. The plate is then securely fastened to the bones with screws, acting as an internal splint. This creates a rigid, stable environment where the bones can grow together (fuse) into a single, solid structure, eliminating pain originating from the joint.
