Advantages of Medical Grade Ti-Alloys

Medical Grade Ti-based- Alloy, one of the best biocompatible metals, is widely used in the field of orthopaedic implants. The most used titanium alloy for medical applications is TC4 (Ti-6A1-4V), which has a two-phase mixture of а and β at room temperature, and its mechanical properties, such as strength, can be significantly improved by solid solution and ageing treatments. The density of titanium and titanium alloys is around 4.5g/cm3, almost half that of stainless steel, which is close to the hard tissue of the human body, and its biocompatibility, corrosion resistance and fatigue resistance are better than that of stainless steel and cobalt alloys, making it the best metal material for medical use. The biocompatibility of titanium and titanium alloys with the human body stems from the ability of the dense titanium oxide (TiO2) passivation film on its surface to induce the precipitation of calcium and phosphorus ions in body fluids to form apatite after implantation, showing a certain degree of biological activity and osseointegration ability, especially suitable for intraosseous implantation.
