PH Orthcom TPLO Training Workshop Successfully Completed

PH Orthcom is delighted to announce the successful completion of the second phase of the Small Animal Orthopedics Training, specifically focusing on Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO). This comprehensive training program, held in collaboration with esteemed instructors, including Professor Wang Qi from Barbara Pet Hospital, aimed to enhance participants’ expertise in small animal orthopedics.

The second phase featured a blend of theoretical insights and hands-on practical sessions. Professor Wang Qi provided in-depth knowledge on crucial topics such as the diagnosis of cruciate ligament injuries, principles of TPLO surgery, preoperative planning, and specialized techniques for small dogs and cats. The course not only equipped participants with theoretical understanding but also emphasized the significance of practical skills through wet and dry practice sessions.

Review of the First Day’s Lessons:

The theoretical course commenced in the morning, focusing on the increasing challenges related to the anterior cruciate ligament of the knee joint in clinical practice. Professor Wang Qi provided a vivid and detailed explanation covering “Diagnosis of Cruciate Ligament Injury and Principles of TPLO Surgery” along with an insightful “Introduction to Knee Arthroscopy.” This session aimed to help doctors comprehend the nuances of different surgical approaches, enabling them to make informed decisions.

Following each course segment, Professor Wang Qi engaged in real-time online Q&A sessions, addressing queries from each participating doctor promptly.

In the afternoon, the hands-on dry practice session took place. Prior to the commencement, Professor Wang Qi briefed the doctors on the proper use of tools and the sequential steps for the practical exercises. A practical demonstration was also provided. Professor Wang Qi, along with teaching assistants, meticulously guided each student on a one-on-one basis to ensure that every participant had a comprehensive hands-on experience.

Review of the Second Day’s Course:

The following morning continued with a theoretical course. After a brief review of the previous day’s content, Mr. Wang Qi delved into “Preoperative Planning and Preparation for TPLO Surgery,” emphasizing the importance of thorough planning to avoid unprepared challenges. Mr. Wang Qi illustrated this by presenting a real case, providing everyone with a firsthand experience.

Recognizing that practical experience is essential, the afternoon session was dedicated to wet practice. Before the hands-on activities, Mr. Wang Qi performed a demonstration of the surgical operation for everyone. The proverb “What is learned on paper will eventually become shallow; only the truth can be learned through practice” was aptly demonstrated. Following Mr. Wang Qi’s professional and detailed explanation, participants engaged in hands-on wet practice, reinforcing their understanding.

To conclude the course, “TPLO Surgery Techniques for Small Dogs and Cats” were covered. This segment served to consolidate the knowledge gained over the two days, incorporating practical experience sharing and addressing questions from the participants.

All the vets expressed a sense of fulfillment, having gained valuable insights. The course, rich in content, provided a platform for continuous learning and discussion.
